The Library offers free access, for Dover Public Library patrons, to the following electronic databases. Some of the databases require an account name and password which DPL patrons can obtain by visiting or calling the library (516-6050).
Biography Resource Center: (Password required) Provides 400,000 biographies on more than 335,000 people.
Ebscohost Databases: (Dover Public library card required) Ebscohost offers an array of online resources for all ages.
Ebscohost MasterFile Premier: This magazine index provides full text for over 1,890 periodicals covering nearly all subjects including general reference, business, health, and much more.
NoveList: NoveList helps to answer the question "What should I read next?" Use it to find new fiction books based on books you've already read or on topics in which you're interested. If you are new to NoveList you may want to take advantage of "Step-by-Step NoveList Training", which can be accessed from a link on the left side of the main page.
Searchasaurus: A colorful, easy-to-use search interface for elementary and middle school students.Topic Search: A full text resource for students exploring social, political and economic issues, current events, scientific discoveries and more. TOPICsearch can be used as both a reference resource and as a tool that assists in beginning the research process.
Heritage Quest Online: (Account name & password required) This genealogical database provides access to the complete U.S. Federal Census, 1790-1930, and a collection of 25,000 word searchable family and local history books.
Learning Express: (Dover Library card required): New users will be prompted to enter their 14 digit library card number and to choose a password. This interactive online database features more than 300 practice tests based on official school and career exams, including ACT, SAT, GED, ASVAB, Firefighter, Police Officer, Paramedic, EMT Basic, U.S. Citizenship, Postal Worker, Cosmetology, and Real Estate Sales, Agent & Broker Exams, among others.
Newsbank: (Account name & password required) This link provides access to the full text of the Union Leader and the New Hampshire Sunday News from 1989 to the present.
Obituary Index: This database indexes obituaries published in the Foster's Daily Democrat from 1960 to 2003. The library has the Foster's Daily Democrat on microfilm for access to the full obituary. The Dover Public Library charges a $50.00 non-refundable fee for historical and genealogical research, provided to non DPL card holders. For more information click here.
Sanborn Maps: (Account name & password required) This link provides access to Digital Sanborn Fire insurance maps for the state of New Hampshire. The maps provide information such as the outline of each building, the size, shape and construction materials, heights, and function of structures, location of windows and doors. The maps also give street names, street and sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house and block numbers.
