The Library offers free access, for Dover Public Library patrons, to the following electronic databases. Some of the databases require an account name and password which DPL patrons can obtain by visiting or calling the library (516-6050).
Biography in Context: (password required) This database currently contains biographical entries for hundreds of thousands of notable and historical persons from around the world.
ChiltonLibrary: (password required) This car repair database provides exclusive photographs, diagnostics designed by instructors, step-by-step repair procedures, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) maintenance schedules, wiring diagrams, recalls and Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for automobiles and light trucks. Searching ChiltonLibrary.com is easy. Select the year, make and model of the desired car from the provided pull-down menus. From there, select from the subject/category menus until you arrive at the repair/service/maintenance procedure needed.
Ebscohost Databases: (Dover Public library card required) Ebscohost offers an array of online resources for all ages.
Ebscohost MasterFile Premier: This magazine index provides full text for over 1,890 periodicals covering nearly all subjects including general reference, business, health, and much more.
NoveList: NoveList helps to answer the question "What should I read next?" Use it to find new fiction books based on books you've already read or on topics in which you're interested. If you are new to NoveList you may want to take advantage of "Step-by-Step NoveList Training", which can be accessed from a link on the left side of the main page.
Searchasaurus: A colorful, easy-to-use search interface for elementary and middle school students.
Topic Search: A full text resource for students exploring social, political and economic issues, current events, scientific discoveries and more. TOPICsearch can be used as both a reference resource and as a tool that assists in beginning the research process.
Heritage Quest Online: (Account name & password required) This genealogical database provides access to the complete U.S. Federal Census, 1790-1930, and a collection of 25,000 word searchable family and local history books.
Learning Express: (Dover Library card required): New users will be prompted to enter their 14 digit library card number and to choose a password. This interactive online database features more than 300 practice tests based on official school and career exams, including ACT, SAT, GED, ASVAB, Firefighter, Police Officer, Paramedic, EMT Basic, U.S. Citizenship, Postal Worker, Cosmetology, and Real Estate Sales, Agent & Broker Exams, among others.
Legal Forms Library: (password required) This database provides a wide selection of legal, business and personal forms for New Hampshire. It includes real estate contracts, wills, pre-marital agreements, and forms for bankruptcy, divorce, and landlord-tenant law.
Mango: (Dover Public Library card required) Mango is an online language learning system that can help you learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, Russian and more.
Morningstar Investment Research Center: (Dover Public Library card required) Morningstar Investment Research Center is an interactive investment database with information on more than 30,000 stocks, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds. It combines cutting-edge technology with Morningstar's investment know-how to give your patrons a one-stop investment site. Designed specifically for libraries, it provides independent analysis, industry information, stock charts, portfolio building tools, and investment education.
Obituary Index: This database indexes obituaries published in the Foster's Daily Democrat from 1928 to present. The library has the Foster's Daily Democrat on microfilm for access to the full obituary. The Dover Public Library charges a $50.00 non-refundable fee for historical and genealogical research, or $10 per obituary, provided to non DPL card holders. For more information click here.
Sanborn Maps: (Account name & password required) This link provides access to Digital Sanborn Fire insurance maps for the state of New Hampshire. The maps provide information such as the outline of each building, the size, shape and construction materials, heights, and function of structures, location of windows and doors. The maps also give street names, street and sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house and block numbers.
